Building began on this temple in 1883 by order of King Alfonso XII and it was consecrated by Saint John Paul II on his fourth trip to Spain on 15 June 1993. It thus became the first Spanish cathedral consecrated by a Pope and the first cathedral consecrated by a Pope outside Rome. It is dedicated to Our Lady of the Almudena, patroness of Madrid.

A donation of €1 per person is requested, which is used for the maintenance of the building as well as the payment of the services it requires.
You can deposit it at the entrance of the temple.
